Schools Adventure - Activities and Safety
SAFETY AND SECURITY
Policy
The safety and security of our school groups is our prime concern. Our Safety Management System includes a Health and Safety Policy which has been written and implemented to ensure the following:-
Compliance with relevant legislation, particularly the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Fulfillment of our general duty of care towards our employees, guests and visitors.
It is in line with industry guidance and codes of practice where these are available.
Our Health and Safety Policy is available for inspection by all visiting teachers together with copies of all staff training and qualifications.
Security
Our on site systems at Gurnard Pines ensure that we meet the highest standards of security. Some of these measures include:
A comprehensive Child Protection Policy which includes training for all staff in pastoral care, child protection and welfare.
ALL In2action staff members are police checked by way of an enhanced disclosure via the CRB.
ALL In2action staff wear a distinctive uniform and have name badges.
Party Leaders have duplicate keys for all childrens accommodation.
A Duty Instructor is on call after hours.
Night time security patrols take place.
Risk Assessments
Risk Assessments are the core of our Safety Management System. All activities and other aspects of our operation at Gurnard Pines are covered by comprehensive Risk Assessments that have been carried out by our own in-house experts, as well as appropriate external advisors. These are reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
ACTIVITIES
General
Our aim is to provide top quality adventure and activity courses with safety as our highest priority, but with an emphasis on enjoyment, education and self-development. We continually monitor, assess and develop our procedures.
All our instructors are trained and assessed to be able to deliver activities to the highest standards. In addition, where a National Governing Body (NGB) regulates an activity, all staff instructing that activity either hold the relevant NGB qualification or have been assessed by technically qualified specialists.
Our instructor/pupil ratio for day time activities varies depending on the activity but is never greater than 1 to 12.
Operating Procedures
All activities, daytime and evening, have clear and comprehensive Operating Procedures, designed to deliver safe, consistent and enjoyable learning experiences to all children. These Operating Procedures include Activity Risk Assessments that are reviewed and updated on a regular and ongoing basis.
We operate to a strict code of practice and our operation is subject to regular audits and inspection by external consultant assessors.
